Apple Inc's latest handsets, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are all set to hit the Indian stores much to the delight of fans.

However, if you are one of those diehard fans looking forward to grap one of the iPhones, note this: you could be paying too much for it, burning a hole in your pocket in the process.

The prices of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus announched earlier this month put the base price of the iPhone 6s at Rs 62,000 for the 16GB variant with the high end variant of 6s Plus put at Rs 92,000, just 8,000 short of the six figure mark.

And what is worrisome here is, at Rs 62,000 for the 16GB variant, the iPhone 6S is the costliest in India across the globe with customers paying as much as USD 306 or Rs 19,500 (approx) more than those in the United States.

Now, considering the fact that Rs 62,000 is equavalent to USD 955, AU$1,310, £620, the iPhone 6s costs just USD 649 in America, AU$1,079 in Australia and £540 in the UK.

This means that Indians will pay $306 (Rs 19,500 aprox) more than Americans, AU$231 more than Australians and £80 more than those in the UK.

And while the 128GB version of the iPhone 6s Plus costs as much as $1,415 (Rs 92,000), AU$1,950, £925 in India, Americans pay only $949, a full $466 (about Rs 29,000 aprox) less than those in India.

In Australia, the 128GB version of the iPhone 6s Plus costs AU$1,490, AU$460 cheaper than that in India, while those in the UK pay £790 -- £135 less.

Nevertheless, much to the delight of fans, India's leading telecom service providers Airtel and Vodafone are offering freebies up to Rs 15,000 on the handsets.

After three weeks of its official launch in the US, Apple is all set to launch the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in India on October 16.

To be available in three version of 16GB, 64GB and 128GB, the Indian prices are given below.

16GB - Rs 62,000/

64GB - Rs 72,000/

128GB - Rs 82,000/
