Amazon measured up to the competition with its signature Kindle Fire HD tablets last year. It looks like the retail giant has a few more tricks up its sleeves.

Recent benchmark results suggest that the Kindle maker is gearing up to take the next step in its tablet series. Device “Amazon KFAPWA”, which could be a 7-inch tablet running on Adreno 330 GPU, indicating a Snapdragon 800 SoC under the hood, surfaced recently.

Another device, “Amazon KHTHWI”, speculated to be the next iteration in the 8.9-inch version, was also spotted.

The thing that’s most exciting about the latest development is the rumour that the 8.9-inch version is getting a notch on its display; from 1920 x 1200 pixels to 2560 x 1600 pixels, making it the highest resolution tablet to hit the market!

The 7-inch cousin is more likely to land up with 1920 x 1200 pixels.

Listings also suggest that both Kindle Fire HD tablets will run on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) garnered by Amazon’s UI.
