‘Eat Pray Love’ opens to a lukewarm response in India

Mumbai: It might be loved internationally and touted as Julia Roberts’ most ambitious project till date, but ‘Eat Pray Love’ has found very few takers in India. The film has received a very lukewarm response here in the Capital with advance booking registering a mere two percent. What’s more is that some cinema halls are giving the film a miss all together and not even showcasing a single show. And it’s not only in Delhi but across several parts of India. As per reports, the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) gave it a rating of 4.8 on 10, and film review site Rotten Tomatoes gave it a score of only 38%. Talking about the film, Deepak Taluja of Fun Cinemas said, “We aren’t showing it in Delhi as the advance bookings in other parts of North India were not great. In Mumbai and Bangalore, we put it up on three to four screens, but ticket sales were very low”. “We expected at least an average response since it’s a Julia Robert film and has an Indian connect, but, it has not excited Indian audiences,” said Yogesh Raizada of Wave Cinemas. What’s acting as an even bigger hurdle is the fact that two Hindi movies, ‘Do Dooni Chaar’ and ‘Crook’ are also releasing on the same day.
