Nokia Lumia 625 first impressions

Nokia has launched the Lumia 625 in India within a month of its global launch and boasts the largest display in Nokia’s Lumia portfolio. We had the phone with us for a short while and here are our first impressions.

The Lumia 625 carries the same design language as the Lumia 620 while feeling a little sleeker and obviously much larger. To maintain the ubiquity across its mid rangers, Nokia has kept the form factor same and used polycarbonate plastic to define the chassis. The placement of keys remains the same too.

The front of the phone comes with a 4.7-inch display, with a front facing camera on top and three capacitive shortcut keys for Back, Home and Bing search given right below the screen. In terms of design and feel, the Lumia 625 is certainly sleeker and curvier and despite carrying a bigger display, it does not feel uncomfortable to hold. It even feels sturdier than the Lumia 620. The 4.7-inch WVGA IPS display comes sans ClearBlack feature just like the Lumia 520 and does not offer a richer, sharper, and crisper visual experience.

Moving to the back of the phone, there is a 5-megapixel camera with flash given on the top, followed by Nokia’s branding and speaker grille placed below it. The phone comes with a removable back but you can only take the back lid off to see the microSD and SIM-card slots and cannot remove the battery.

On the multimedia front, the phone offers dual-camera – a 5-megapixel primary camera and a VGA secondary camera. The rear camera resulted in some average shots in the dim lighting conditions and we suggest you wait for our detailed review to know more it. Nokia is offering a number of other camera features in the phone, and these features would be some value addition to smartphone shutterbugs. Another multimedia attraction in the phone is a number of free services like free one year subscription to Nokia Music for a year, along with some free downloadable movies via Your Movie app.

Software-wise, the phone offers the Windows Phone 8 flavor and comes pre-installed with Amber update, but will feature only those apps and features that support the phone’s specifications.

The Lumia 625 is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor coupled with a 512MB of RAM, which we expected could have rather been better at 1GB at least. In addition to that, it has an 8GB of internal storage and microSD card support.

The Finnish company has priced the phone for Rs 19,999 in India, which will be more than its previously launched Lumia 720 and 620 smartphones, but considering the display and the preloaded Amber update, seems justified.

To know more about the phone, stay tuned for our detailed review.
