New York: Software giant Microsoft has announced that anyone running Windows XP or a more recent version can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro as cheap as USD40, according to media reports.
Microsoft has reportedly said that the upgrade at USD 40 is a promotional rate that will last through the end of January 2013. Users can download Windows 8 over the Internet. A DVD version will be available in stores for USD 70 throughout the promotion.
The price for the upgrade is a pleasant surprise for the users because it is significantly less than what Microsoft typically charges to update the operating system.
The cheapest upgrade version of Windows 7 for those running older editions of Windows costs USD 120 on Microsoft's online store.
