New Delhi: Anything new on ‘Android’ – the most popular mobile platform, from none other than Google – catches everyone’s attention. And when it is about an Android smartphone from Google, it surely is a headline-grabbing deal.

So, Indian mobile users have been lucky this time around getting their hands on ‘Nexus 5’ within weeks of its global launch, compared to the over-six months long wait for ‘Nexus 4’.

With Google Nexus 5 officially available on Google India’s Play store - 16GB version for Rs 28,999 and 32GB version for Rs 32,999, much cheaper than similarly-powered Android smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S4 – the big question everyone’s asking: should you buy it?

Let’s look at some key specifications of the phone:

OS – Android 4.4 (KitKat)

Screen - 4.95 inches
Corning Gorilla Glass 3
Display - 1920x1080 / 445 ppi
Full HD IPS

Camera - 1.3MP front facing
8MP rear facing with Optical Image Stabilization

Size - 69.17 x 137.84 x 8.59 mm
Weight - 130 g

Battery - 2,300 mAH
Talk time up to 17 hours*
Standby time up to 300 hours*
Internet time up to 8.5 hours on Wi-Fi, up to 7 hours on LTE*
Wireless Charging built-in

CPU - Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, 2.26GHz
GPU - Adreno 330, 450MHz
NFC (Android Beam)
Bluetooth 4.0 LE
Memory – 16/32 GB internal storage
RAM - 2 GB Ports

Micro USB / SlimPort enabled

Now answering the question whether it is worth buying, here’s what critics and tech websites have to say:

Engadget

A phone like the Nexus 5 would get our blessing even at a higher price, but the fact that you can buy it for as low as $350 makes it that much sweeter. Most of the problems we saw in the Nexus 4 have been addressed here.

CNet

Finally, we have an Android handset that deserves the Nexus name. The Nexus 5 is fast, gorgeous, and stocked with features (including LTE) and it is the device for showing the true power of the Google universe and the Android operating system.

GSMarena

At this stage none can match the Nexus 5 in terms of bang for your buck.

The Verge

The Nexus 5 is an excellent phone in many ways. It's solidly built and feels great to use. It's got serious processing power which means it can handle pretty much anything you throw at it. The phone has an absolutely gorgeous display. The KitKat update is polished and refined, and cements my belief that not only is Android leading the charge in mobile OSs from a functionality and user interface standpoint, but from a design standpoint as well. The battery life, while not perfect, appears to be good enough to get you through a day of work — which is certainly on par with its competition.

So, going by the sentiment among tech guys, Google Nexus gets a thumbs up for buy!
