New Delhi: Govt is likely to increase cigarette rates in the Union Budget 2014-15. The ministry of health has recommended Rs 3.5 hike per stick for all types of cigarettes, according to sources.

By increasing the rates, in terms of excise duty, the revenue of the government will increased.

This step if implemented, could also mean that there might be a drop in the number of people who smoke. It might be a step for smokers who want to kick the habit.
