For Deepika Padukone, odd pairs sizzle onscreen!

Mumbai: Love, be it onscreen or off is always more exciting with elements of unpredictability and bouts of unusualness. This is exactly what’s offered with Farhan and Deepika starrer ‘Karthik Calling Karthik’, which is slated to release on 26th February. Farhan Akhtar, a promising actor in the current lot tries to woo his lady love, the lissome beauty Deepika in a rather unseen way. According to a trade analyst, “These two good-looking actors do make a very striking couple. I feel that even the film ‘Karthik Calling Karthik’ that is opening on February 26, sends out feelers that it isn’t a run-of-the-mill romantic flick. There’s an element of mystery to the premise (it’s a psychological thriller), and what’s more, seeing Farhan woo Deepika in a quiet dignified kinda way in the trailers, adds mystery to this screen pair. Who knows, if KCK works, this pair could be as magical as hit pairs of Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan or Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif.’’ Filmmaker Ritesh Sidhwani who has brought these two actors together in KCK says, “I’m quite excited about the Farhan-Deepika jodi. Forget all that is being written about them being an item, etc. That is complete hogwash. However, I’m super-confident that this pair will work because I have seen them on screen and they’re in perfect sync.’’ Deepika agrees. “When Vijay Lalwani, the director of KCK, cast Farhan and me, the first thing everyone said is, ‘Oh they’re an unusual pair.’ However, when the promos were aired, I got a lot of messages saying that there was a definite screen chemistry visible between the two of us. In fact, there’s an inexplicable ‘it’ quality between Karthik (Farhan) and Sonali (me) that you have to actually see to believe.’’ The Bangalore beauty feels very strongly about her pairing with Farhan and says, “Odd pairs have as great a chemistry as the regular good-looking, wellmatched screen jodis.’’ In her opinion if Raj Kapoor-Nargis, Shah Rukh-Kajol and Amitabh Bachchan-Rekha are evergreen movie lovers, then even a Ranbir Kapoor-Konkana SenSharma will always be remembered for the chemistry they shared in ‘Wake Up Sid’. “Screen chemistry is something that happens between two actors even if they seem physically mis-matched,’’ she points out. And, she is confident KCK will highlight the magic between Farhan and her. Ritesh adds, “What is also great about KCK is the fact that there are no passionate smooches and no physicality between Karthik and Sonali. There’s a subtle, understated element of romance which appeals to every Indian. What’s also great is that our music is rated very high on the charts, and when you’re telling a ‘different’ love story, good music plays an integral role.’’ All very promising it might sound for a while, but this jodi only passes the litmus test if it’s able to live up to the expectations of the ultimate – and, that is, the audience!
