Los Angeles: Oscar winning actress Natalie Portman has released a statement saying that she is ‘disgusted’ with fashion designer John Galliano after he was caught on camera making anti-Semitic remarks.
The Israel-born actress is the face of Dior, the French fashion house which has suspended Galliano as its chief designer pending an enquiry and Portman says that she will not be associated with him in any way, reported Los Angeles Times online.
The 29-year-old actress, who won Best Actress trophy at the Academy Awards on Sunday for her role in `Black Swan`, said she was shocked by a video in which Galliano says ‘I love Hitler’ and tells two women that they "should have been gassed".
"I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano`s comments that surfaced. In light of this video and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr Galliano in any way," said Portman.
"I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful," said the actress in the statement.
Portman frequently visits Paris, where Galliano is said to have launched anti-Semitic attacks on at least four women and is engaged to French ballet dancer Benjamin Millepied.
The actress who is pregnant with her first child was planning to wear a gown by Galliano for the Oscars but after the anti-Semitic allegations, she decided on an outfit by Rodarte.
