New Delhi: Following superstar Aamir Khan`s visit to Leh last month, actor Rahul Bose has also now lent his support to the people in the flood-hit Himalayan region.
The 43-year-old actor visited the affected areas of Leh on Friday as the ambassador of Oxfam India to oversee relief work being carried out by the NGO.
Rahul visited some villages, interacting with the dislocated people and children. The actor hopes that the work of building shelters for the flood affected people in Leh and surrounding villages would be completed as per schedule.
"There is an urgent need for safe, warm shelters for the flood survivors before the harsh winter sets in," said Rahul.
In August, Aamir had visited the Drukpa school in Leh where some scenes of his film `3 Idiots` was shot. The school was damaged in the devastating cloudbursts which happened on Aug 6, causing flashfloods and mudslides.
When asked how do celebs visiting help the victims, Rahul said, "I don`t know how much such visits help the affected but it definitely gives them a sense of security that they are not alone in this time of crisis and somebody is there for them."
The actor also said he was touched by the community feeling shared by the people in the region during this hour of crisis.
"There is a sense of community survival in Leh. It is not like metro cities, where we don`t know even our neighbours," he said.
Calling the visit a great learning experience, Rahul said it has changed him as a person completely and he realised one should always under-promise but over-deliver "as every time you make a promise to the person in need puts a lot of faith in you".
The flash floods washed away government offices, paramilitary camps and residential homes. At least 183 people, including 35 army men, were killed in the natural disaster.
