No emotional drama in `Rockstar`: Kher

Kailash Kher says the new programme is free from emotional drama.

Mumbai: Ace singer Kailash Kher, who is judging IPL Rockstar-Music Ka Tadka, a reality show combining cricket and music, says the programme is free from usual properties like SMS voting and emotional drama. "`IPL Rockstar...` is a reality show with a difference as it has alloyed two passions--cricket with music. It is a unique concept. It is devoid of SMS voting and the usual emotional drama," Kher, who was here to participate at the annual cultural fest of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) told reporters last evening.
The Colors musical show, hosted by rapper Hard Kaur will see 12 contestants from various reality shows performing `live` at various cricket stadiums across the country during the matches, competing to become the IPL Rockstar 2010. "To present your talent before such a huge crowd requires a lot of confidence. For a live presentation, one needs to also present himself in toto. Your music has to be the best... And when you perform live your entire aura should come out," Kher, who neither plays cricket nor watches the game due to his whirlwind trips, said. On factors he looked for, in aspirants while judging a show, the musical maestro said, "80 per cent music content and 20 per cent overall presentation including the body language and facial expressions." On whether he is a cricket buff, Kher said, "I apprecipate every sport. I don`t play and watch cricket but I am friendly with many cricketers including Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, with whom I share my birthday." Narrating his experience of recording an international theme anthem for T-mobile and Fender Guitars, Kher said that the musicians from five different countries converged at the Capital Record Tower to sing the song - Citizens of the World. "It was a beautiful experience and taught me many things and also gave an insight into the technicalities involoved," the singer who shot to fame with his rendition Allah Ke Bande, said. When asked how had he scripted his own `rags to riches` story, the singer said, "There is no fixed formula for success. It is destiny coupled with hard work and in my case, I just followed my inner instinct." Kher said he had to even leave his house as his father did not want him to take up music as a full time profession. "That was a tough period of my life but I always had a hunger to lead a good life and this kept me going," he said. Kher has three films lined up - Love, Sex and Dhokha, Paathshala and Mittal vs Mittal besides a new album he is working on. PTI
