IndianOil-Petronas inaugurates LPG import-export terminal
Chennai: IndianOil-Petronas Tuesday inaugurated its LPG import-export terminal at nearby Ennore to serve households in the southern region.

"The Ennore terminal of IndianOil-Petronas Pvt Ltd will meet the LPG demand of not only Tamil Nadu but also neighbouring Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh", IndianOil-Petronas

Chairman and IndianOil Director (Marketing) M Nene said in a statement after inaugurating the terminal at Ennore.

IndianOil-Petronas Pvt Ltd (IPPL) is a Joint Venture between IndianOil Corporation and Petronas of Malaysia.

Currently, IPPL has a state-of-the-art LPG Import Terminal at Haldia in West Bengal.

Nene said the present bulk LPG requirement in Tamil Nadu is 1.2 million tonnes per annum, while availability is only 0.4 million tonnes per annum.

The shortfall was met by moving LPG from another terminal in Mangalore, he said, adding that the new terminal would ensure not only increased LPG availability but also avoid its transportation by trucks.

Stating that the newly inaugurated terminal at Ennore has an installed capacity of 600,000 tonnes per annum, he said provision has been made to double the capacity.

The company now sells about 9,000 tonnes of bulk propane and LPG per month from the Haldia terminal. From the Ennore terminal, the company has set a target of selling 5,000 tonne of propane and LPG per month, he said.

On promotion of auto gas in the country, he said the company has planned to expand auto-LPG dispensing stations to 50, hoping to increase sales of about 400 tonnes of auto LPG to 2,000 tonnes per month.

He said the company was operating eight stand-alone auto- LPG dispensing Stations in Karnataka, West Bengal and Gujarat.
