Hyderabad: Leading low-cost airline IndiGo Tuesday launched a new daily flight on the Dubai-Hyderabad sector, where it will deploy an Airbus-320 aircraft.
This is IndiGo's first international service from Hyderabad and the private carrier's maiden flight from Dubai to Southern India, and its overall fourth to the key financial centre in the UAE.
According to a release jointly issued by IndiGo and GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL), the first flight landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) here from Dubai at 11.05 hrs today. It received a traditional water canon salute welcome at the airport in the presence of IndiGo and GHIAL officials.
As per the schedule, the flight (6E-25) will depart from Dubai at 05.35 hrs (local time) and arrive at Hyderabad at 11.05 hrs. The departure flight (6E-26) will leave RGIA at 13.20 hrs and arrive at Dubai at 15.45 hrs (local time).
Vikram Jaisinghani, Chief Executive Officer, GHIAL, said the new service will enhance connectivity between Hyderabad and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, where more than 5,00,000 Telugu people reside.
"IndiGo will play an important role in promoting tourism since Hyderabad has always been a favourite holiday destination for the UAE residents. Also, Hyderabad is one of Asia's largest IT hubs as well as home to many big hospitals. This service will offer better options for corporate, commercial and medical travel," he said.
Aditya Ghosh, President, IndiGo, said the new service further strengthens the six-year-old airline's position in the lucrative West Asia market.
IndiGo already operates two daily flights on Delhi- Dubai and one on Mumbai-Dubai routes.
