McDonalds aims to cross 250 outlets in West, S India in 3 yrs
Coimbatore: Quick service restaurant chain McDonalds India plans to open up to 50 outlets per year to cross the 250-outlet market in West and South India in the next three years, a top official said on Monday.

With the existing 140 outlets in West and South India, it would touch 160 by this year-end, Amit Jatia, Vice-Chairman of Hardcastle Restaurants which spearheads McDonalds' operations in these regions, said here.

There are plans to open 35-50 outlets per year, crossing 250-mark in three years time with a total investment of Rs 500 crore, he said.

Jatia, who attended opening of the first McDonalds restaurant here, said the company's focus on the Southern market has been "very strong" this year.

Talking about the expansion plans for Tamil Nadu, he said the company aims to open about 30-35 stores in 3-4 years and hire nearly 2,000-2,500 employees in entire South India.

Jatia refused to provide the company's financial details.

When asked whether the campaigns by various organisations targetting junk food had impacted their growth and business, he said McDonalds India is very careful about providing quality food to customers so as to ensure its reputation is intact.
