NTPC says Delhi discoms not drawing power
Delhi distribution companies are not drawing electricity from NTPC stations even though they are short of power but availability is not an issue, the state-run power generator said Friday.

Noida: Delhi distribution companies are not drawing electricity from NTPC stations even though they are short of power but availability is not an issue, the state-run power generator said Friday.
The remarks come amidst the National Capital Region (NCR) experiencing power cuts on increasing demand with mercury levels rising. Media have reported power shortage to the tune of 600 MW in Delhi yesterday.
"Delhi is short of power but no one is buying power from us. They are not drawing around 283 MW of electricity even when the capacity is available," A N Dave, Regional Executive Director, NTPC, told reporters here.
He said that power distribution companies have been consistently drawing less power in the past few days. Lower demand has forced NTPC to temporally shut its plants, he added.
BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna and North Delhi Power Ltd are the power distribution companies in Delhi.
Five of NTPC's plants -- Badarpur, Anta (Rajasthan), Jhajjar (Haryana), Dadri and Auraiya (UP) supply electricity to the National Capital Region.
"Some of our Eastern region plants also supply power to Delhi," Dave said.
"The reason (for less drawal of power) can be best told by the distribution companies," he added.
On Wednesday, Delhi drew only 1,847 MW against a demand of 2,404 MW whereas 2,012 MW was available with NTPC, Dave said. They bought 1,646 MW against the availability of 1,778 MW power on Thursday.
NTPC's installed capacity in the NCR region is 4,437 MW of which present allocation to Delhi State is 2,403 MW.
In addition, Delhi also has a share of 177 MW from NTPC Joint Venture Jhajjar station in NCR. The total allocation to Delhi from all NTPC stations out to be 3,353 MW.
NTPC has a total installed capacity of 41,184 MW.
The country largest power generator also assured that it is taking steps to address the supply situation.
"All our units are available, no overhauls of the power plants (that supply power to Delhi) are planned during the summer," Dave said.
