New Delhi: German luxury car maker BMW on Friday announced a top level management change in its Indian arm with Philipp von Sahr designated to take over as head of operations with effect from October 1, 2012.

Sahr will replace the current President of BMW Group India Andreas Schaaf, who will move to Munich in Germany to assume new executive position at the BMW Group Headquarters.

"Philipp von Sahr, currently President of BMW Group Belgium-Luxemburg, will succeed Andreas Schaaf as President of BMW Group India," the company said in a statement.

During the tenure of Andreas Schaaf as President, BMW India successfully stood ground in a fiercely competitive environment and maintained its Number One position in the Indian luxury car market, the company said.

Sahr started his career with BMW AG in 1987. Prior to joining BMW Group Belgium-Luxemburg, he was the Head of Sales for BMW Group Germany.

Schaaf was appointed as India President in 2010. He was earlier working as the Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for the BMW Group Korea. He had replaced Peter Kronschnabl, who moved to head BMW's Russian operations.
