New Delhi: The Steel Ministry Monday said it has initiated the process to constitute a committee for the selection of the Chairman for iron ore miner NMDC.
"It has been decided to constitute a search committee for selection of Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NMDC. The process of constitution of search committee has already been initiated," Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma said in the Lok Sabha.
NMDC is without a permanent CMD since the retirement of its head on December 31, 2011.
"...The selection of the new incumbent for the post of CMD, NMDC could not be made till now, as the panel recommended by Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has since been scrapped," he added.
PESB had in July 2011 suggested M S Rana, CMD, Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India, to take over from incumbent Rana Som who was set to retire from NMDC on December 31 last year after attaining the age of superannuation.
But, the Steel Ministry was not happy with the PESB's recommendation and instead gave company's Technical Director N K Nanda the additional charge.
Following some issues that cropped up, SAIL Chief C S Verma was given the additional task.
