Susan Boyle, who shot to fame with `Britain`s Got Talent`, says her father stopped her from dating.

London: Scottish singer Susan Boyle, who shot to fame with British reality show `Britain`s Got Talent`, says she briefly dated a guy named John but her father put a stop to the fledging relationship.

The 49-year-old singer says she briefly dated John when she was 30 but her father thought she was not mature enough to get involved and put a stop to it. Boyle still regrets it, a website reported. Boyle, who famously declared on the show that she had never been kissed, says the relationship was "chaste". "In my late 20s, I had a boyfriend for seven weeks. He was called John. I met him at a wedding and it was the first time I was involved with anyone, because I was always frightened of guys but he was very kind. "One day I was upstairs when the phone rang. My dad got to it first. `She doesn`t want to talk to you,` he said and put down the receiver. `Who was that?` I asked him. `You`re no ready for a boyfriend, hen!` said my dad," Boyle recalls in her forthcoming book `The Woman I Was Born To Be`. Despite her unhappiness, the `Wild Horses` hit maker understands the action taken by her father. "I suppose dad was right that I wasn`t mature enough for a relationship. He just wanted to protect me from getting hurt but it did hurt when we stopped seeing each other," Boyle said. PTI
