Air India implementing recommendations of panel; HC told
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court was on Tuesday told that the process has begun to implement recommendations of an expert panel to ensure parity in career progression and wage rationalization of pilots of Air India and merged Indian Airlines.
The statement that the recommendations of the Committee headed by former Supreme Court judge, Justice D M Dharmadhikari was made during the hearing of a matter relating to training of pilots for Dreamliner Boeings by Air India.
Air India (AI) had filed an appeal against an order of a single judge bench staying further trainings of pilots, affiliated to Indian Pilots Guild (IPG) of AI, till implementation of Justice Dharmadhikari panel recommendations.
The counsel for AI told a bench headed by Acting Chief Justice A K Sikri that the recommendations of the committee, dealing with various issues including parity in training and career progression of pilots, are being implemented.
The court then disposed of the plea of the national carrier as "infructuous" and asked it and Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA), a pilots' body of erstwhile Indian Airlines which is seeking parity with pilots of Air India, to file their written submissions within two weeks before the single judge bench of Justice Suresh Kait.
It said the single-judge bench would commence hearing on September 24 on the plea of ICPA which alleged it has not been dealt "at a par" with their counterparts at IPG who have been preferred in training on Dreamliner Boeing 777 and 787 and this "discretionary" approach has adversely impacted their career progression.
The committee, in its report, has given recommendations on "integration across various cadres and determination of level and seniority" and "wage rationalization between employees of two airlines" which later merged into one.
