Air India seeks better performance from employees
Mumbai: National carrier Air India has urged its employees to stay focused on improving its services in all areas of operations in 2014 and not to squander away the gains of the last year.
"The need of the hour would be to stay focused on improving our service in every area of operation with determination and commitment and continue the good job done," Air India chairman and managing director Rohit Nandan said in his New Year message to the over 29,000 employees.
As Air India welcomes the New Year, it can look back at the year gone by and introspect on its successes and challenges, he said adding, "we need to overcome the impediments and strive for further improving on our performance in the coming year."
"Our concerted efforts to win back passengers have resulted in increasing our market share. In spite of stiff competition and high ATF charges, we have shown a lot of character and determination to fight adversities and soar towards a brighter horizon," Mandan said in his message.
Stating that Air India has seen marked improvement in its financial and operational performance in the year gone by, Nandan said, "we have to utilise these strengths to surge ahead of competition."
He said that once the national carrier becomes the member of Star Alliance, the global club of 28 elite airlines, Air India passengers will enjoy enormous benefits both on ground as well as on-board.
On December 14 last year, Star Alliance which had put AI's membership application on hold way back in August 2011 granted in-principle approval to the state-owned carrier to join the group.
As part of the grouping, Air India passengers will enjoy enormous benefits, including seamless transfers across the world, more frequent flyer mileage points, code sharing which will enable them choose a wider range of flights and access to facilities at over 1000 lounges worldwide.
The Star Alliance network offers 21,900 daily flights to 1328 airports in 195 countries.
