Aircel-Maxis issue: Not influenced by UPA's stand; guilty to be booked soon, says Jaitley

New Delhi: Emphasizing that the accused in Aircel-Maxis case will be brought to book after due course of trial, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday said that his government does not agree with the previous government's (UPA) stand.

“Whatever was the stand of the earlier government... we are not influenced by the stand at all,” Jaitley said.

“Investigative agencies have absolute freedom to record the evidence, if they come up with concrete with evidence, trials will eventually start,” he said.

Jaitley said “Nobody, absolutely nobody however powerful he is, will be spared if found guilty”.

Adding that CBI has already filed charge sheet in the matter, Jaitley said that the Aircel-Maxis case will now proceed to trial.

“Investigation is at a critical stage, procedures are being followed in strict compliance with the law,” Jaitley said.

He however added that it would not be prudent for him to give more details of these investigations.

AIADMK MPs have been raising the Aircel-Maxis issue and demanding action against P Chidambaram's son Karti and others.

Proceedings of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were virtually washed out yesterday due to the uproar created by AIADMK members.
