IFFI to screen award-winning war movies

Panaji: Four movies, selected from across the globe, that narrate the stories of war and repercussion of battles on human lives, will be screened during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2009, which begins from November 23. These films will be a part of special section on `War and Peace’ curated by Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), a

co-host for IFFI. Chetan Anand-directed Hindi war film `Haqeeqat` (1964), which is set on the Sino-India of 1962, will kick off the section. "The entire concept of this section is anti-war. While man fights, woman suffers as they get widowed," ESG`s Chief Executive Officer, Manoj Srivastava, who has curated the section, told reporters on Thursday. "Entire section is contemporary...World needs to focus its attention on the raging wars wherever they are," he said. The section will also feature Oscar winning film `No Man`s Land` (2001), tragic story set in the midst of the Bosnian war. Danis Tanovic-directed movie had won appreciation during Cannes Film Festival and was selected as Best Film in the foreign film category by the jury. Kurdish movie `Lakposhtha Parvaz Mickonand` (Turtles Can Fly) and French/Romanian flick `Captain Connan`, will also feature in the section. The IFFI 2009 will be held in two cities of Goa – Panaji and Margao – from November 23 to December 03. The festival will screen 200 films from 50 different countries, the organizers said.
