Brazil keen on replicating MMRDA model in Rio de Janeiro
Mumbai: Taking a leaf out of the city's nodal development agency Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority's (MMRDA) resettlement and rehabilitation work, the Brazilian government now plans to replicate the model in the province of Rio de Janeiro.
A three-member delegation of Rio de Janeiro's metropolitan planning authority today visited MMRDA projects in the city, the authority said in a statement.
"MMRDA has done some appreciable work as far as the resettlement and rehabilitation of its project affected families are concerned. We obviously wanted to understand more about it, so as to enable authorities back in Rio de Janeiro to implement the same," the US-based World Bank's Infrastructure Finance Specialist Alessandra Campanaro said.
The metropolitan planning authority of Rio de Janeiro is developing road infrastructure and is similarly placed with regard to the population, people's right and financial structure, he added.
The delegation is in the city on a two-day visit and will also visit projects of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) and a few slum rehabilitation scheme projects.
