Review: ‘Bhoot and Friends’ is a colourless children’s film

In the history of Indian cinema, children’s films are the most untapped genre of filmmaking from which most of the directors consciously try to stay away. Filmmakers are ready to make juvenile comedies but when it comes to children’s cinema, they simply freeze. ‘Bhoot and Friends’ could have been made into a decent film had it come with a convincing script and powerful narration.

Filmmakers are ready to make juvenile comedies but when it comes to children’s cinema, they simply freeze. ‘Bhoot and Friends’ is one such half-hearted attempt of making children’s film. Starring Jackie Shroff, Ishita Panchal, Tejas Ranate, Akash Mair and Makrand Deshpande, Kittu Saluja’s adventure film is the story of Raghav and his two friends Igloo and Roma, who are out to spend their vacations with grandmother in countryside. However, little they know about the trouble awaiting them. Once on their journey, the trio of Raghav, Igloo and Roma get involved in a perilous treasure hunt, where a bunch of rogues want to steal the precious blue diamond. And here comes Bhoot Uncle (Jackie Shroff), who plays the perfect saviour to kids. ‘Bhoot and Friends’ could have been made into a decent film had it come with a convincing script and powerful narration. Alas, despite credible acting from entire star cast, especially the kids, ‘Bhoot and Friends’ looks a bit confused and losing its steam. Instead of working on the script, filmmakers keep trying to recreate horror moments such as the passé treasure hunt scenes in a dark cave. Even the magic tricks and slapstick looks pedestrian. ‘Bhoot and Friends’ lacks all the essential ingredients to make a wonderful children’s film. Ratings: Two cheers for this one!
