Mumbai: Actor Ajay Devgn`s look in `Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai` where he plays an underworld don is inspired by Amitabh Bachchan in `Deewar`.
The film set in the 1970s sees Ajay Devgn in a character based on the lines of underworld kingpin Haji Mastan. Ajay dons a purely white ensemble throughout the film.
Director Milan Luthria said he loved Amitabh Bachchan`s all-white look when he goes for his father`s funeral.
"I realized that the look would work for Ajay as he looks good in white. Ajay wears white throughout the film. It gives him a different identity," he said.
The team had to go through a grueling 37-costume-changes that reflected the classic style of the 1970s before settling on the `all-white` look for Ajay.
`Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai` which would be released on July 30 follows the rise of Sultan (Ajay Devgn), and the conflict, when his protégé Shoaib (Emraan Hashmi), challenges his supremacy, and usurps power to rule the murky underbelly of Mumbai.
