New Delhi: EPFO should give priority to timely transfer and withdrawal of provident funds as well pension claims by employees, Labour Minister Sis Ram Ola said on Tuesday.
"EPFO must give priority to timely settlement of claims for provident fund," He said in meeting with the senior EPFO officials.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, the minister has emphasised that citizens rightly expects efficient and transparent mechanism in claim settlements.
EPFO has a mandate to settle all claims within 30 days of its receipt as per its citizen charter.
It was brought to the notice of the minister that EPFO receives on an average 12.74 lakh applications for settlement of various claims like PF transfer, withdrawal and pension every month, according to the statement.
EPFO is expected to handle 152.87 lakh claim settlement applications during the current financial year.
"On consistent monitoring, the number of claims pending for settlement beyond 30 days has reduced from 12,702 as on July 3 to only 5268 as on July 26 and efforts are being made even to bring down this number", the minister was apprised of.
As on July, 60 percent of the claims were settled within 3 days of its receipt in as many as 20 offices. It is expecting that the three more regional offices, Mysore, Surat and Bharuch, will achieve this milestone this month. EPFO has around 120 regional offices in the country.
After the meeting, Ola noted that pace of settlement of claims has increased by more than 10 percent in as many as 27 of the offices.
Minister has also appreciated that in some of the EPFO offices, each staff is settling more than 20 claims per day.
The EPFO offices in Noida a and Gurgaon top the chart of the efficiency in terms of number of claims disposal per staff.In each of these offices, 27 claims are being settled by each staff every day. Settlement of claim is one of the responsibilities with the of EPFO staff.
