Mumbai: As tributes poured in from all walks of life for Bollywood’s ‘Evergreen Hero’ Dev Anand, who launched many new faces in Hindi Cinema that went on to become superstars, none from the Indian film fraternity turned up to bid goodbye to the legendary star. Fans of Anand were shocked to see that no one from Hindi cinema was present in person to pay tribute to the yesteryears’ star. Though the actor’s cremation took place at Putney Vale crematorium in South London a week after his death, barring Subroto Roy of Sahara Group, none from the industry attended the last rights of Dev Anand. Around 200 people had gathered which included the Indian High Commissioner in Britain, Rajesh Prasad and Lord Meghnad Desai. Talking to a daily, Dalvir Bansal, a fan said, “Dev Anand launched the career of many who went on to become big stars. How come not a single one of them turned up. I had thought there`d be lots of stars and so, access might be difficult. So I came early to pay my respects. But I`m shocked to see that no one from Bollywood is here.” Another fan too expressed his feelings and said, “If a current superstar had died, I`m sure there`d have been people from Bollywood.” It’s sad that not even one Bollywood actor could make it to Anand’s funeral. Does that mean if you are ‘out of sight, you are out of mind’?
