Indian Oil Corp. Chairman R.S. Butola said Friday the state-run fuel retailer is losing Rs 7.72 a liter on gasoline sales.

New Delhi: Indian Oil Corp. Chairman R.S. Butola said Friday the state-run fuel retailer is losing Rs 7.72 a liter on gasoline sales.

"We are living in an environment of high crude prices and we have to account for the ability of the consumer to absorb the prices," he said, explaining why the company hasn't raised gasoline prices over the past few months.

Butola said the company has asked the government to fully reimburse it for its losses due to selling the fuel at discounted prices.
