Mumbai: They say that too many cooks spoil the broth, but have you ever heard that lack of culinary skills can cost someone a movie role? We are sure you haven’t, but this one’s for real as it has happened with none other than the illustrious Shabana Azmi.According to reports, Azmi, who will be seen essaying an interesting character in Indian-born Canadian director, Dilip Mehta’s ‘Cooking with Stella’, suffered a major disappointment a few days back when she missed out on the main role in the film (the one in question) due to her lousy cooking! Since the role required the protagonist to play a cook in a diplomat’s (Lisa Ray) household who teaches the diplomat’s chef-husband (Don McKellar) the best culinary secrets of India, Dilip had to choose Seema Biswas of ‘Bandit Queen’ fame for the same. It is believed that Seema Biswas, on the other hand, is a fabulous cook and was just apt for Stella’s part. And she and Don reportedly whipped up a storm in the kitchen on the Delhi sets of the film. Well, all we can say is that Shabana’s loss is indeed Seema’s gain. Here’s hoping Dilip Mehta cooks up a savoury dish to cater to the mature taste buds of the audience.
