No compromise on passenger safety: Ajit Singh on KFA lockout

New Delhi: Expressing concerns for air travelers due to the Kingfisher Airlines (KFA) lockout, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh on Tuesday said that the government will not accept any compromise on passenger safety.

The Aviation Minister said that government will take stock of the situation in the meeting stipulated for this evening.

The debt-ridden airline has reportedly approached Air India, IndiGo and Jet Airways and others for getting its aircraft checked for certification.

Singh had yesterday said that certified engineers would inspect whether the airline is adhering to the safety norm set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

However, the minister has warned that if the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) finds that Kingfisher is not sticking to its schedule or violating safety norms, action will be initiated.

Aircraft maintenance engineers, whose aircraft airworthiness clearance is mandatory for any flight to take off, struck work Sunday night, demanding payment of their dues pending since March by Oct 5, 2012.

The airline had the lowest market share in August, which stood at 3.2 percent.
