Review: ‘Letters To Juliet’ makes you fall in love with Romeo and Juliet

Directed by Gary Winnick and written by Jose Rivera and Tim Sullivan, ‘Letters To Juliet’ is a romantic movie based on the famous plot ‘love lost and found’. This movie is a kind of love story that has been told since time immemorial but still it touches your heart and captivates your attention every time it is told. ‘Letters To Juliet’ stars very pretty Amanda Seyfried as Sophie, Christopher Egan as handsome Charles, Gael Garcia Bernal as Sophie’s fiancé, Victor and impressive Vanessa Redgrave as Claire, Charles grandmother. Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) plays a wannabe journalist who wants to earn big name in the industry. The lady is a die-hard romantic and has big dreams to spend her life with fiancé, Victor (Gael Garcia Bernal). However, Victor is a practical guy, who wants to open an Italian restaurant in New York. The couple goes on a pre-honeymoon trip to Verona but Sophie soon finds out that Victor is more interested in doing research for his culinary venture than to spend quality with her. Heart-broken Sophie joins ‘Club di Julietta’, a group of ladies who address the problems of disheartened lovers, who pin letters beneath the famous balcony of Juliet. One fine day, she discovers a 50 year old letter written by Claire (Vanessa Redgrave). When Claire lands up in Verona with her grandson Charles (Christopher Egan), Sophie meets her. All of them take a trip to find Claire’s long lost love Lorenzo (Franco Nero). There, Sophie finds herself on the brink of a new romance with Charles. The script of the movie is well written and very refreshing. The film is full of exotic scenes of beautiful Italy that is a feast for the senses. Performances by the entire cast are up to the mark. This sweet, simple love story is very predictable yet the romance in it forces you to smile throughout. Set against the breathtaking Italian backdrop, ‘Letters to Juliet’ is a love story that makes you fall in love with Romeo and Juliet all over again. Ratings: Four Cheers for this one!
