‘Captain America’ ends ‘Harry Potter``s magic spell at box office

London: ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ has taken over ‘Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part II’, to top the US and Canadian box office with takings of 65.8 million dollars in its opening weekend.

The new superhero movie stars Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell. The final movie of the ‘Harry Potter’ series saw its audience go down by almost 72 percent as compared to its opening weekend. “The victory of ‘Captain America’ was well beyond what anybody was expecting,” the Daily Mail quoted Don Harris, executive vice president of distribution for Paramount Pictures, which released ‘Captain America’ as saying. “The film drew positive reviews and had a retro look to it that appealed to moviegoers even after a summer filled with superhero flicks,” he added.
