Direction and designing - Karan is simply superb. The filmmaker, who’s entertained us in the past, now wants to style us. Van Heusen Men’s Fashion Week saw designer duo Karan Johar and Varun Bhal’s collection on the ramp. Based on the New York City, the Magical Metropolis came across a line that gives voice to the essence of the urbanity. “It was Varun’s idea…it is also a city where I have mostly shot,” said Karan, citing his closeness with the leading global city. Though he went ahead to call himself the fashion guru of Bollywood, a very limited celebrity presence could be seen during the duo’s shoe. Apart from having Kunal Kapoor in the front row, there were no show stoppers. "We wanted the clothes to be the showstoppers at the show not a person," said Johar. Talking about his association with Varun, an elated Johar said, “Me and Varun often turned up at parties wearing the same shirt, our tastes are that similar. So doing a collection together was the next step and I have always wanted to be a designer. So he helped me fulfil my dream." With the sketches of hand drawn scenes of New York on the silhouettes of jackets, shirts, low crotch trousers and shorts ruling the runway; fabrics like linen, coated linen, cotton, voile, treated cotton, jersey and corduroy made the show an eye candy.
