Review: Imran and Deepika give an exhilarating performance in ‘Break Ke Baad’

Danish Aslam’s ‘Break Ke Baad’ perfectly encapsulates the unreliability of modern day relationships, which often crumble like cookies in testing times. Starring Imran Khan and Deepika Padukone along with a bevy of stars like Sharmila Tagore, Lillette Dubey, Shahana Goswami, Navin Nischol and Yudhishtir Urs, ‘Break Ke Baad’ shows the flip side of romance.

‘Break Ke Baad’ is the story of two childhood friends - Abhay Gulati (Imran Khan) and Aaliya (Deepika Padukone) and their complex relationship which leaves them emotionally embittered. As a couple, Abhay and Aaliya are two very different people when it comes to their likes and dislikes. Aaliya has a burning desire to make it big in the world of showbiz while Abhay is unsure of his future. Nevertheless, Abhay is very much in love with Aaliya and overlooks all her faults. One fine day, Aaliya decides to pursue further studies in Australia. Abhay does not like her idea for the fear of losing her but ultimately gives in to her demands when she proposes that they should take a break for a year. Further, unable to stay away from Aaliya, Abhay follows his beloved in Australia, only to be spurned at her hands. Finding Abhay in Australia, Aaliya completely loses her cool and decides to break off from him. Aaliya wants Abhay to go back to India but Abhay stays on, hoping that one fine day Aaliya will realise what she has lost. In his this mission, Abhay is helped by a bunch of Good Samaritans – Nadia (Shahana Goswami) and Cyrus (Yudhishtir Urs). Finally, unable to win over Aaliya, a dejected Abhay returns to India while success driven Aaliya moves on in life and takes up acting assignments in Australia. Will Abhay forget Aaliya? Will Aaliya realise her faults? Watch ‘Break Ke Baad’ to know more. A word on acting, Imran and Deepika are completely convincing as Abhay and Aaliya and give a winning performance. Sharmila Tagore, Navin Nischol and Lillette Dubey are natural. Shahana Goswami and Yudhishtir Urs too look good. ‘Break Ke Baad’ is not a mushy romantic flick but an emotional story that dwells upon the trials and tribulations of love. Ratings: Three cheers for this one!
