SBI group topped list of customers' complaints in FY'13 in Raj
Jaipur: The banking Ombudsman in Rajasthan received the maximum complaints against SBI group banks last fiscal, with 43.64 percent of the total being against them.
Out of the total 4,099 complaints received by the ombudsman in 2012-13, 1,789 complaints were filed against the SBI and its associate banks and 1,121 complaints were against nationalised banks, whereas 65 complaints were against other public sector banks, N P Topno, Banking Ombudsman-Rajasthan, RBI told reporters here Tuesday.
Maximum number of per branch complaints is 16 against Standard Chartered bank, 11 against HSBC, 5 against ING Vysys bank and 2.14 against Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.
However, in terms of area, maximum complaints (830) were reported from Jaipur followed by Jodhpur and Alwar at 264 and 247, respectively.
The Ombudsman while discussing the annual report informed that only 102 complaints were against rural banks.
"It is significant to note that the number of complaints against rural banks is comparatively low.
Lack of awareness may be a significant reason behind that so we have decided to hold awareness camps, meetings and other activities in rural areas in coming month," he said.
First such camp will be held in Baran after few days, Topno added.
He said the number of complaint was 2.61 percent less than the previous year. Topno attributed decline in total number of complaints to various programmes conducted by the Banking Ombudsman Office for sensitising the officials of banks about the need for improving the quality of customer service.
Topno added that pendency of complaints also reduced.
He also said that nature of the complaints varied from pension or ATM related cases to loan related matters.
