New Delhi: Tata Motors Monday said it has tied up with DRB-Hicom Berhad to supply trucks to Malaysia's armed forces.

"Tata Motors and DRB-Hicom Defence Technologies Sdn Bhd (DEFTECH), a wholly-owned subsidiary of DRB-Hicom Berhad, Malaysia, have signed a cooperation agreement," the homegrown auto major said in a statement.

According to the agreement, both the firms will together develop, promote and market the "Tata Motors high mobility 4x4 trucks with payloads ranging from 2.5 tonnes to 5.0 tonnes" for the armed forces of Malaysia, it added.

Initially, the Malaysian firm, DEFTECH will work on two Tata Motors models -- LPTA 715 and LPTA 1623.

"These vehicles are suitable in various configurations, including troop carriers, command post, ambulance, reconnaissance missions as an armoured carrier communication shelter and others," Tata Motors said.

Since 1958, Tata Motors has so far supplied over one lakh vehicles to the Indian military and paramilitary forces. It has also exported its range of specialised defense vehicles to the SAARC, ASEAN and African regions.

Besides, the firm is currently in the exploratory stage of entering the Middle East market for its defense vehicles.

Tata Motors' revenue from the defense business was about Rs 1,000 crore in 2011-12, up 50 per cent over the last year.

In the current fiscal, the company is looking at 25-35 per cent growth.

Last month, Tata Motors had said it may invest about Rs 600 crore on development of Futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicles (FICV) and for possibly setting up of a manufacturing plant for the same.
