A German woman has become the first female to be crowned the winner of the annual Air Guitar World Championships.

Melbourne: A German woman has become the first female to be crowned the winner of the annual Air Guitar World Championships.
Aline Westphal, also known as “The Devil’s Niece”, beat 17 other contestants to win the first prize. Westphal wooed the audience and the jury by playing Foo Fighters’ “The Pretender” at Oulu marketplace in Finland``s north. The entrants, wielding their invisible guitars, were judged not on technical ability but on enthusiasm. Westphal came out on top with an energetic - and a tad unhinged – performance, reports the Courier Mail. All finalists had to perform twice with Rage Against the Machine’s track ‘Without A Face’ being a mandatory song. Justin “Nordic Thunder” Howard came second while Veronica “Like Ever Gin” Mullerova was placed third. Defending world champion Sylvain Quimene of France was sixth. A female contestant had not even taken a medal at the Air Guitar World Championships since 2004 when American Miri “Sonyk-Rok” Park won silver. ANI
