Wellington: Ben Affleck, who has two children with his wife Jennifer Garner and expecting a third, wants to “serve as an example for his kids” through his philanthropic pursuits.
The 39-year-old actor founded charity the Eastern Congo Initiative in 2010 and has since visited the war torn region eight times. The ‘Daredevil’ star is honoured that he has the ability to contribute to society on such a grand scale. “I got to a point in my life where I felt like I had been very fortunate,” Stuff.co.nz quoted him as telling People magazine. “And I wanted to do something more with my life than just make movies and try to make money. “I wanted to do something that was important to me in other ways and would serve as an example to my kids,” he said. Affleck’s non-profit organisation supports several Congolese charities that are committed to rebuilding the region. “The people there are working as hard as they can to make their lives better. And that’s inspiring,” he said. He thinks its essential that his children learn the benefits of being selfless. “I tell them it’s important to be involved in the world in way that help others and not just yourself,” he added. ANI
