Hindi writer Gautam Sachdev awarded

London-based writer has been awarded special Indian High Commission award.

London: A London-based leading Hindi litterateur, Dr Gautam Sachdev has been chosen for a special Indian High Commission award for his contribution to Hindi Literature.The Hindi/Cultural attache of the High Commission of India, Anand Kumar said this at a function organised for the release of Sachdev`s collection of Hindi Stories-`Atkaa Hua Paani`. The award will be presented next month, Kumar said.
Releasing the collection of Hindi stories, Kailash Budhwar, former Head of the BBC Hindi Service in London, said `Sachdev`s stories mirror the conflicts and frustrations of ordinary Indian immigrants who have worked hard for dignity in the UK over the last quarter century. `Atkaa Hua Paani` contains 21 stories that raise various complex issues of unemployment, racism, sexism, child abuse and social exclusion. Lalit Mohan Joshi, literary and film critic and General Secretary of Sanniddhya said "Gautam Sachdev is the leading Hindi litterateur in Britain whose work can no longer be ignored. The stories in the present volume carry powerful sub-text beneath the main narrative." Madhup Mohta, Councillor for International Organisationsat the Indian High Commission said a litterateur of Sachdev`s stature should lead the way for creative writing in Hindi in Britain. Senior Producer Mamta Gupta dramatically rendered one of the stories of the collection `Brahma Ki Doosri Beti` which dealt with cases of child abuse. Bureau Report
