Berlin: An exhibition focusing exclusively on artistic production in India is on at a leading art house here.
`Being Singular Plural` is the first exhibition at the Deutsche Guggenheim to focus exclusively on artistic production in India, the organisers said.
While recent international exhibitions have celebrated the country`s economic boom and the concomitant strength of the art market, this exhibition is oriented instead toward co-producing new work, facilitating research, and assembling a community of practitioners.
It unites a selection of recent films and videos, which investigate the individual natures of life and the moving image and are produced by some of the most innovative and rigorous media practitioners in India.
The exhibition, curated by Sandhini Poddar, assistant curator of Asian art, Solomon R Guggenheim Museum, New York, is on till October 10.
Among the exhibits are "The Torn First Pages", a strong political statement about Myanmar by Indian filmmaker Amar Kanwar and "Residue", a film about a defunct power plant in northeastern India that was abandoned because the production costs outweighed the commercial value of the electricity produced.
Visitors will also be able to see Bollywood movies like Vishal Bharadwaj`s "Maqbool" and Faiza Khan`s "Superman of Malegaon" among others.
