Valaya woos audience with fine detailing, muted colours

Valaya stuck to what he is best at - Indian silhouettes in very contemporary designs.

New Delhi: Cowl neck tops, tulle dresses, georgette saris, halter neck tunics and pleated kurtas paired with elegant jewellery grabbed everyone`s attention at the J.J. Valaya show for the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW).
While other designers on the inaugural day of this five-day business-to-business event chose to showcase a fusion line to impress buyers Saturday, Valaya stuck to what he is best at - Indian silhouettes in very contemporary and chic designs. On one hand there were anarkalis with churidars and saris, and on the other, there were tunics paired with leggings -- all in the subtle hues of grey, peach and mauve with detailed embroidery. The line was also an extension of his ‘Alika’ jackets based on a fictional courtesan, who has now moved to a new environment to discover new life. So the last set of the collection saw detailed and embroidered jackets paired with saris, knee-length tunics, tulle gown and asymmetrical tops. "I don`t like doing things over the top hence the line was very different as in summer one would like to wear soothing colours. I had tried to combine layering with fabulous jewellery through this line," Valaya told reporters Saturday.
