New Delhi: Finance Minister P Chidambram leaving for Tokyo tonight to attend the Annual Meetings of World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He will also attend BRICS Finance Ministers' and G-24 ministerial meeting during his aforesaid visit, the Finance Ministry said in a statement.

This will be his first official visit abroad after taking charge of the Finance Ministry on August 1, 2012.

Chidambaram will also hold bilateral meetings with Finance Ministers of Bangladesh, Canada, Iran, Australia, Bhutan, Senior Minister of International Monetary Cooperation, Sri Lanka, British Chancellor of the Exchequer and UK Secretary of State for Financial Development, among others, on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Banks.

He will also hold meetings with World Bank President, President of Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and 2nd Informal East Asia Finance Ministers' Meeting during his aforesaid visit.

The Finance Minister will leave for Bangkok on October 14 after completing his Tokyo visit.
