London: Robin Gibb was still writing lyrics and making a “bucket list” of things to do in his hospital bed shortly before he fell into a coma, his friends have revealed.
While being treated for pneumonia, the 62-year-old Bee Gee who has liver and colon cancer, was busy making plans for the future including setting up a charity and producing more music in a notebook. His condition has deteriorated rapidly in the past 48 hours and loved ones were advised to stay at his bedside amid growing fears he has only days to live. “He has kept an antique notebook by his bed to write down lyrics and ideas he has had floating around,” the Mirror quotes a friend as saying. “He has also expressed a desire to set up a children’s charity involving music. It was a ‘bucket list’ of things he wanted to achieve. But everyone is very worried now. “His family are taking it hour by hour, praying for a miracle. But with Robin they know never to give up,” the friend stated. Gibb’s devoted wife Dwina and son Robin-John are joined by Gibb’s Bee Gee brother Barry and mum Barbara, who has flown in from the US, to stay at his bedside. Gibb, who recently spoke of being in remission from cancer, was heartbroken when he was forced to cancel his appearance on Tuesday at the premiere of the Titanic Requiem, which he composed with Robin-John. “The past two weeks have been devastating. The one aim Robin had was to be at the requiem premiere. It was his motivation, passion and goal throughout the battle against cancer,” the close family friend said. “His spirit has been shattered since the pneumonia and he has gone visibly downhill. Before he slipped into a coma he was struggling to get out of bed without a wheelchair,” the friend added. Meanwhile actor Leslie Phillips, 87, has planned to cut short a holiday in Spain to be alongside his friend. After learning about Robin’s decline, Leslie vowed to fly back from Ibiza tomorrow to be with the singer at the private hospital in Chelsea. “I don’t know if he will recognise me but it’s important to be there for him,” he stated.
