New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday said excessive pessimism at home has affected the growth process. He, however, added that the government is committed to accelerate economic growth.
Addressing the Annual General Meeting of the FICCI in the national capital, the PM said, “Our government has acted to reverse the cycle of negative expectations and stimulate investment.”
The PM said that inflation in the last two years have risen to unexpected level, adding the government is trying hard to bring it down to between five and six percent in the near term.
Stating that poverty in India has declined at a pace unseen in the last two hundred years, the PM emphasised that the government needs to do more to eradicate poverty.
He also said that the government needs to have a growth process which is far more inclusive.
