Consumer inflation for industrial workers up by 7.57% in Feb

New Delhi: Higher food prices pushed up inflation based on the consumer price index for industrial workers (CPI-IW) stood at 7.57 percent in February.

"The point-to-point rate of inflation based on CPI-IW for the month of February 2012 is 7.57 percent as compared to 5.32 percent in January 2012," Labour Ministry data said today in a notification.

Inflation based on food index attained the level of 5.08 percent in February as compared to 0.49 percent in January this year due to rise in several food items.

Meanwhile, the data said CPI-IW increased by 1 point and stood at 199 for the month of February, 2012 vis-a-vis the base of 100 for the year 2001.
