New Delhi: One would not expect to see a controversial political leader on the covers of a lifestyle magazine, but times are surely changing. Gujarat’s Chief Minister Narendra Modi is on the cover page of Society’s latest issue. Known for doing stories on film stars and the rich and the famous of the country, ‘Society’ magazine took a bold step by putting Modi on the cover of its latest issue with a dramatic line – ‘Metamorphosis: From Merchant of Death To Sultan of Corporate Governance’, splashed across the picture. And Mr Modi seemed to be equally keen for the metamorphosis, specially with his name still being embroiled in the Gujarat riots that took place in 2002 and left more than 1000 dead. After the verdict announced by the Supreme Court on Monday direction the SIT to file its report in the trial court, Modi took to Twitter to announce the beginning of a new era. He posted on the micro-blogging site, “God is great”. He then declared that he would embark on a three-day fast starting Saturday, to "strengthen Gujarat`s environment of peace, unity and harmony." Infact, over the past few years, Narendra Modi has been on a path of a makeover. Not only has he tried to reach out to a wider audience through Twitter (he has over 3lakh followers on the micro blogging site) he has also made sure that development work in Gujarat ensues at a steady pace. And now with the latest issue of ‘Society’ hitting the stands, Modi is surely going to reach out to a wider audience and specially the elite class of the society. Modi’s fast is also being seen as a "huge image makeover exercise" designed to promote his image outside Gujarat. The Gujarat CM is surely on the path of change and by the looks of it, he probably will be able to convince everyone this time round.
