Hit TV soap opera Coronation Street had its first lesbian kiss between characters Sophie Webster and Sian Powers.

London: Hit TV soap opera Coronation Street had its first lesbian kiss between characters Sophie Webster and Sian Powers.
The show, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, will soon be broadcasting the first lesbian kiss for viewers, reports a news daily. The on-screen pair took a chastity vow after becoming friends at a church. But Sian broke her vow with boyfriend Ryan. Sophie’s feelings for Sian step up after she dumps her boyfriend Ryan. Brooke Vincent, 17, plays the role of Webster, while Sacha Parkinson, also 17, plays Powers. Brooke explained: “Sophie suddenly realises that she loves Sian. Sophie has never had a serious boyfriend and she’s never been in love. She kissed Ben when they were together, but it never really got serious – maybe because of how she feels about Sian.” The episodes, which progress towards the kiss, will be shown in the coming weeks. In one of the episodes, Sophie tells Sian, “You are far more important to me than any lad.” Being stunned by Sophie’s statements, Sian runs out of Webster’s house but returns later and both kiss on the lips.
