Don’t blame me for coal block allocations: Jaiswal
Zeebiz Bureau

New Delhi: At a time when Congress-led UPA is in a tight spot following the CAG report on Coalgate, Union Coal Minister Shri Prakash Jaiswal said he can’t be blamed for the policy decision on coal blocks allocations. Jaiswal was speaking exclusively to Zee News’ Editor and Business Head Sudhir Chaudhary.

Washing his hands off, Jaiswal said if the coal blocks allocations happened between the period of 2006 to 2009, according to Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), how could he be blamed for the policy decision when he was not at the helm of coal ministry.

Jaiswal, however, said that his government had formulated a policy of coal blocks allocations that is “hundred percent correct” and “impartial” as there was no other way of fulfilling the coal requirement in the country.

Answering a query about his alleged nomination as the final arbitrator in the dispute between the Jayaswal brothers of Nagpur, those who figure in CBI FIRs on “massive irregularities” in allocation of coal blocks, Jaiswal said that though he was approached but he did not arbitrate the dispute.

Denying his proximity with the Jayaswal family, the Coal Minster said, “I never interfered in their family matter. I know that there was family dispute between the brothers but I never became the arbitrator. The Jayaswal brothers had approached me to sort out the differences. They also asked me to become authority in their company matters but I told them that I don't have time for such things."

When asked about the letter which says that Jayaswals managed to pocket coal blocks by giving 26 percent free equity to Lokmat Group and 14 percent to whichever party the Minister (Shri Prakash Jaiswal) decides, Jaiswal said how can he be blamed when there is no signature of his in the letter.
