Mumbai: Anurag Kashyap’s five and a half hours crime saga ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ was released in India in parts, the first half of which hit the theatres on June 22nd and the second part of it, sources claim, is set to release on August 10. The news has been confirmed by Vikram Malhotra, COO Viacom18 Motion Pictures. Sources claim that the production house is releasing the film earlier than planned, to cash in on part one’s box office acceptance. Despite an ‘A’ certificate, GOW received a positive response from the audience and critical acclaim as well. It has already collected a net total of Rs. 14.75 crore. According to reports, during the weekend, it saw 100 per cent occupancy in theatres, while on weekdays it was between 80 per cent and 90 per cent. “The film, despite its blood and gore, grips you because it focuses on an important emotion – revenge. People are waiting to see how the drama enfolds,” said a trade analyst. ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ is Anurag’s most ambitious project yet.
