Govt may hike cap on subsidised LPG cylinders
New Delhi: In what may come as a good news for millions of consumers, the government may announce a hike in the cap on subsidised LPG cylinders on Monday from the current 6 to 9.
According to a leading TV news channel, the government is likely to make the announcement today with the cap on subsidised LPG cylinders being raised to 9 from the current 6 per household annually.
It further claimed that a meeting of the Congress leaders last week demanded raising the cap on subsidised LPG cylinders to 12 from the current six and then Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily had promised to talk about it with the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister.
Last week, the Delhi government had approved a proposal to provide three additional subsidised LPG cylinders annually to around 3.56 lakh poor families identified under Kerosene-free Delhi scheme.
Similarly, the Maharashtra government had also decided to provide three additional subsidised LPG cylinders to those with an annual income of less than Rs 1 lakh, a decision that was taken at a cabinet meeting.
